(#504) Transitional Cancer Research
For driven high school/undergraduate/graduate students, SkoolMentor is offering a unique 8 week opportunity to conduct remote research in Transitional cancer research with a Post-Doctoral Associate affiliated with one of the top universities in the USA.
The Mentor has extensive research experience in cancer biology, Transitional research, mass spectrometry including proteomics and glycoproteomics. The topics of research include studying the altered expression of proteins and glycans in diseased states (cancer/microbial infection) compared to healthy states, visualize data and perform database searches, summarize findings in bar plots/pie charts/tables.
The researcher has served as a mentor for high school, undergraduate and graduate students for several years, is a member of various international organizations such as US-human proteome organization (US-HUPO) and Society for Glycobiology (SFG) and has several publications and awards. The mentor can assist students to create poster or oral presentations, help in scientific communication and writing that may be relevant for science fairs and scientific conferences.
This is an excellent opportunity for students who are curious, driven, want to contribute to patient-oriented research and wish to learn cutting-edge web-based tools in cancer research and mass spectrometry. Opportunities such as these are also a great way for students to showcase the passion for STEM and stand out in college applications.
The mentoring happens once a week for 8 weeks and is for 1 hour duration. Students will need to put ~10 hours per week on their own doing the research and the mentor expects that the students are prepared with their tasks before the weekly meetings to achieve maximum outcome of this program. The mentor will be available during the week for any queries or information via email. Some basic knowledge on operating Microsoft Excel will be helpful but it is not mandatory.
