SkoolMentor is offering a unique 8-week program in entrepreneurship in STEM. This program is designed and customized for highly driven high school/and junior undergraduate students who have interests in science and business. This program will introduce students to concepts of business and science towards writing, building, and executing a viable business plan. At the end of the program, students are expected to pitch their business ideas to a panel of micro-angel investors in the field of biotechnology. Successful student pitches may be funded for a portion of their business.

Through this program, students will grow their network in the STEM and business sector and will develop and deepen their business acumen through both technical and practical applications of business and science. Students will also learn how to perform thorough literature reviews, analyze market segments, design sound marketing strategies, and develop presentation skills through a pitch to a panel of micro-angel investors.

About the mentor: The mentor is a double PhD in stem cell biology and science education. Dr. T is a mentor, coach, educator, and published scholar and researcher in the field of hematopoietic stem cell biology and science education. Dr. T is a successful entrepreneur in science consultancy and an active volunteer in the community. Dr. T is a two-time TEDx speaker, frequent keynote speaker and panelist.

Schedule of program: One-hour a week of classes for foundational learning for 7 weeks. The 8th week is dedicated to business pitches. Weekly mentorship and coaching: 2-3 times a week.

Expectations of Students: Attend weekly 1-hour class to learn foundational business and science concepts. Agree to be coached and mentored for at least 2 times a week (minimum ½ hour per session). Meet weekly milestones and commit to completing weekly tasks as assigned. Students are expected to dedicate 3-5 hours per week of independent research and business plan development. The scope and success will depend on each individual student’s commitment.

Prerequisites: No previous business knowledge or experience is needed; however, a hardworking and driven spirit is essential for optimal experience in this course. Students must have interests in a STEM discipline and drive for entrepreneurship. Must be comfortable with using technology and the internet for research and access to stable internet connection is essential.
