(#105) Bioinformatics Research

(#105) Bioinformatics Research

Short Description

Research pressing Bioinformatics topics including studying biomarker detection for cancer diseases, genome or transciptome annotation, tissue regeneration in reptiles, histopathology image analysis and more. The researcher has more than 15 years of expertise in the field with publications in high-impact journals with experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The output of the research can include science presentations at prestigious sciencitifc conferences, create code repositories and write pre-print manuscripts. This is an excellent opportunity of students to dive into data acquisition, storage, management, analysis and visualisation.

Long Description

Bioinformatics is a new area using the computer power to be able to acquire, manage, analyze, and get insights from large biological data sets including genome sequencing, transcriptome, proteomes, 2D/3D imaging and many other new technologies used in Biological Research.

SkoolMentor is looking for motivated high school/undergraduate/graduate students to participate in a unique 8 weeks opportunity to conduct remote research in computational biology and bioinformatics with a research scientist affiliated with an international bioinformatics company. The Mentor has extensive research experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, and molecular biology in human, animal, plant, fungi, bacteria, and virus with publication in high-impact journals and more than 15 years expertise.

The topics of research could be studying biomarker detection for cancer diseases, genome or transcriptome annotation, tissue regeneration in reptiles, histopathology image analysis, or the Mentor is open to research interests provided by the student. Students will develop an understanding of the basic elements in bioinformatics for data acquisition, storage, management, analysis, and visualization.

The researcher has served as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students. The mentor can provide excellent opportunities for students to create a poster to be presented at prestigious scientific conferences, create code repositories in GitHub/GitLab or write research pre-prints manuscripts.

This is an excellent opportunity for students who are curious about data analysis and bioinformatics and wish to learn cutting-edge tools.Opportunities such as these are also a great way for students to showcase the passion for STEM and stand out in college applications. The research will be driven by the students.
